Semilla Negra (Black Seed)

The Sala de Arte Bronzo in San Cristóbal de La Laguna presents 'Semilla Negra' (Black Seed), an exhibition of ceramics by artist Ofelio Serpa. In this show, Serpa explores the fascinating world of seeds, reinterpreting them and creating pieces of grand dimensions that symbolise life and resistance.

The artist delves into the organic forms of seeds: their curves, their compact or open, elongated or perforated structures, and their unique textures. Striations, veins, or outer barks serve as inspiration to generate highly expressive sculptural objects, conveying messages of growth and vital force.

According to Francisco Santos, author of the exhibition text, with 'Semilla Negra' Ofelio Serpa embarks on a stage of constant exploration in his work, highlighting the importance of artistic reinvention to convey hidden realities and discover transformative concerns. An encounter with contemporary art that invites reflection.
