Things to do in San Miguel de Abona

San Miguel de Abona splits its life between a surprisingly well-preserved midland old town and a coastal strip — Golf del Sur, Amarilla Golf, San Blas — built around golf and residential tourism. Two different audiences, two different calendars.

Up top you'll find the patron saint fiestas, romerías, theatre and council activities, with the town square as the usual stage. Down on the coast, programming runs more to sports tournaments, live music in hotels and shopping centres, and events tied to the residential complexes.

The big date is San Miguel Arcángel in late September, which fills the old town for several days. The rest of the year the calendar is sparser than in neighbouring southern municipalities, so it's worth checking before driving up rather than assuming there'll be something on.
