Things to do in La Orotava

La Orotava has one of the best-preserved old towns in the Canaries and it puts it to use: much of its programming happens outdoors, in the squares of the historic centre and in 17th-century mansions turned into cultural venues. On top of that it's a huge municipality that stretches all the way up to Teide, with mountain and hiking activities you won't find on the coast.

The high point of the year is Corpus Christi, when the famous carpet of volcanic sand from Teide is laid out in the town hall square and the streets are covered in flower carpets. It's the event that draws the biggest crowds, but programming here runs all year, especially in summer with the individual neighbourhood fiestas.
