Things to do in Candelaria

Candelaria is the main pilgrimage site in the Canaries, and that shapes its entire agenda. The Basilica of Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria, patron saint of the archipelago, hosts the municipality's largest religious and cultural events, with the square and the seafront promenade serving as the natural stage for everything else.

14 and 15 August are the big dates: thousands of pilgrims walk in from across the island and the town puts on a special programme including the Auto Sacramental passion play. If you're going on those days, be aware that access and parking get very difficult.
