Strokes with a Canarian Soul · Ciara B
About the plan
The travelling exhibition 'Strokes with a Canarian Soul' arrives at the Antiguo Convento de Santo Domingo de La Laguna to present Ciara B's artistic vision of the islands' identity. The exhibition offers an artistic journey through key elements of the Canary Islands: its landscapes, flora, fauna, and cultural heritage. Admission is free and it can be visited from 4 September until 5 October.
This project aims to highlight and help preserve the natural and cultural richness of the archipelago. Ciara B uses illustration as a tool to spark curiosity, raise awareness, and bring the public closer to a territory that is not only a source of inspiration but also needs to be understood and protected.
A distinctive feature of the exhibition is the incorporation of references to the Amazigh linguistic heritage associated with the Canary Islands. Certain words and concepts are integrated into some works, accompanied by explanations that reveal their meaning and establish a deep connection between word, image, and territory.
Art, nature, and identity merge in 'Strokes with a Canarian Soul', fostering a dialogue between tradition and contemporaneity. The artist reinterprets elements linked to the islands from her personal perspective, employing different techniques and artistic languages. The presence of flora and fauna species, landscapes, and other elements of Canarian heritage invites viewers to observe their surroundings from a new perspective, prompting reflection on the importance of preserving the memory and identity of the Canary Islands. The project is a collaboration with the Department of Culture of the Illustrious City Council of San Cristóbal de La Laguna.
Although Ciara B's work has travelled beyond the Canary Islands, even reaching international exhibitions such as the one in Milan in 2024, the archipelago remains her primary source of inspiration.
Ciara B, born in Tenerife in 1982 and residing in La Orotava, is an illustrator and plastic artist known for her early connection to drawing. Throughout her career, she has explored various techniques such as coloured pencils, charcoal, pastel, oil, watercolour, and digital painting.
