Super 8 Argentina Canaria

The TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes hosts the Super 8 Argentina Canaria exhibition, a two-day event dedicated to Super 8 format cinema, bringing together the creations of Argentine and Canarian artists. This cultural event, with free admission, offers a unique opportunity to explore the richness and diversity of experimental and historical cinema from both regions, featuring screenings, presentations, and round tables. The exhibition features prominent figures from the cinematographic and cultural spheres.

• 19:00 Institutional welcome by Emilio Ramal and the Argentine Consul Luis María Sobrón.
• 19:10 Exhibition presentation by Luis Adern (in person), joined by Paulo Pécora and María Langhi (online from Argentina).
• 19:20 Infinito Super 8 Festival Exhibition (2024/2025 Editions): Selection curated by Paulo Pécora, artistic director of the Buenos Aires festival dedicated to the 8 mm format. Includes the works:

• Tenerife short film: Los Barrancos Afortunados (1976, 15 min) – Dir. Josep Vilageliu.
• 20:10 Canarian Super 8 Round Table: A meeting and debate with directors Luis Adern, David Baute (2025 Goya Award for Mariposas negras), Josep Vilageliu, and Tenerife amateur filmmaker Manuel Tauroni. Moderated by Emilio Ramal.

Thursday 24 September

• 19:00 Presentation: Programme introduction by the three exhibition curators.
• 19:10 Tribute to Mario Piazza (1956-2024): Recognition of the filmmaker from Rosario and Super 8 pioneer in Argentina, accompanied by the presentation of the unpublished fanzine Yeites. Screenings:
• El hombre de acero (Argentina, 1976, 5 min) – Dir. Mario Piazza.
• Sueño para un oficinista (Argentina, 1978, 20 min) – Dir. Mario Piazza (work originally premiered with live music by the group Irreal).
• 19:35 Tribute to Narcisa Hirsch (1928-2024): A tribute to the key figure of experimental and intuitive cinema, with screenings of her works and a mention of the book Narcisa Hirsch. La intensidad de una mirada, by Daniela Muttis. Screenings:
• El Aleph (Argentina, 2005, 1 min) – Dir. Narcisa Hirsch (edited by Daniela Muttis and music by Nicolás Diab).
• Muñecos (Argentina, 1972/1973, 14 min) – Dir. Narcisa Hirsch.
• 19:50 Closing screenings:
• Tenerife short film: Crónica histérica: La conquista de Tenerife (1974, 20 min) – Dir. Equipo Neura, screened in homage to filmmaker and educator Juan Puelles (1947-2024).
• Gran Canaria short films: Latrom (1984, 7 min) and Billete de 100 pesetas, both by José Cristóbal Sánchez Quintana.
• Farewell and closing of the exhibition.
