The Soul of Gospel

The Auditorio de Tenerife hosts the highly anticipated concert The Soul of Gospel in its Sala Sinfónica, featuring the prestigious Black Heritage Choir. This choir, a selection of singers from the Mississippi Mass Choir, will pay a heartfelt tribute to the gospel genre, exploring its evolution from plantation spirituals to its more urban and contemporary forms.

Under the direction of Mr. Jerry Calvin Smith, the Black Heritage Choir is distinguished as a 'choir of soloists', where each member takes on a leading role without diminishing the power of the whole. This artistic approach allows us to appreciate the richness and emotional honesty that characterise gospel music. The sound of gospel, with its immediate impact on diverse audiences, is present in the rhythm and vibrations of all contemporary popular music, having influenced and nourished major stars and genres such as Jazz, Blues, Country, and Hip Hop.

This concert, with an approximate duration of 90 minutes, is an opportunity to connect with African American musical heritage and understand how this religious music has remained an enduring social phenomenon, adapting and staying true to its essence from plantation times to today.

Please note that once the event has started, no entry to the hall will be permitted. Access is permitted only for those aged five and over. For any questions regarding ticket purchases, please contact taquilla@auditoriodetenerife.com or call 922 568 625 (Monday to Friday, 10:00 to 14:00, excluding public holidays).
