Lohengrin by Richard Wagner

Ópera de Tenerife presents Lohengrin, the acclaimed romantic opera in three acts by Richard Wagner, starring the enigmatic Swan Knight. The work immerses the audience in the story of Elsa, who longs to believe in Lohengrin and the promise of a saviour to draw her away from the harsh complexities of the world. However, the environment is enveloped in whispers, suspicions, and rumours, creating an atmosphere where the truth resists full revelation and trust is easily manipulated. This drama resonates with contemporary issues, reflecting how we are often swayed by simplistic narratives in the face of painfully complex realities.

This opera is part of Wagner's romantic trilogy, alongside Der fliegende Holländer and Tannhäuser. It represents the pinnacle of 19th-century German romantic opera and marks the beginning of a new style: the Wagnerian music drama, with its revolutionary theoretical and practical innovations. In this work, traditional opera pieces are replaced by a continuous musical flow that merges seamlessly with the dramatic action. The production promises sublime moments, such as the prelude to Act I, Elsa's moving Dream, the prelude to Act III, and Lohengrin's famous racconto, which envelop the viewer in a magical atmosphere.

The opera will be performed sung in German with surtitles in Spanish and English, ensuring the audience can follow the narrative. Organised by the Sinfónica de Tenerife and the Cabildo de Tenerife.
