‘The Last President’ by La República at Teatro El Sauzal

The Teatro La República company presents ‘The Last President’, a play that delves into the figure of Don Juan Negrín López, the last president of the Second Spanish Republic. This 90-minute performance will take place at Teatro El Sauzal on Saturday 10 October 2026 at 20:00 and is recommended for ages 14 and over.

The play addresses a debt to democratic memory and the complexity of our history, exploring the figure of Negrín, often silenced or misrepresented. Teatro La República conceives theatre as a space for debate, where the past dialogues with the present. ‘The Last President’ does not aim to explain history linearly, but rather presents Negrín as a dilemma: that of the misunderstood leader, the intellectual forced into decisions with irreparable losses. The play stands as an act of cultural resistance against oblivion, polarisation, and oversimplification, inviting reflection on the meaning of democracy, the cost of commitment, and the role of memory as an essential tool for the present.

Tickets are priced at 12 € (Standard Rate) and 9 € (Special Rate). This reduced rate applies to students, those under 25, over 65, and residents of the municipality of El Sauzal, and must be validated at the box office. You can purchase your tickets in several ways:
