The Pride of Loving You

Ópera de Tenerife presents 'The Pride of Loving You', an innovative new zarzuela composed by Javier Carmena. This work invites reflection on the value of love in an environment that doesn't always legitimise it, transforming the intimate act of loving into a silent political statement. Set in the emblematic Chueca neighbourhood, the zarzuela tells the story of building an 'emotional homeland' where pride emerges as the answer to fear and guilt, establishing a dialogue with the current situation of setbacks in rights. The work underscores the importance of continuing to love out loud as a form of resistance.

The zarzuela will be performed sung in Spanish, with surtitles in Spanish and English, to ensure all attendees can follow the plot. Access to the hall is permitted for ages five and up, and punctuality is requested as, once the performance begins, entry to the hall will not be permitted.

Musical direction is by the renowned Alondra de la Parra, while stage direction is by Albert Boadella and Martina Cabanas. This production is a co-production of the Fundación Orquesta y Coro de la Comunidad de Madrid-ORCAM and the Auditorio de Tenerife.
