Liliana's Invincible Summer

The play 'Liliana's Invincible Summer' is presented at Espacio Cultural CajaCanarias Santa Cruz, based on the poignant book of the same name by writer Cristina Rivera Garza. This production brings to the audience the true story of her sister, Liliana Rivera Garza.

Liliana was tragically murdered by her ex-partner in Mexico City on 16 July 1990. For decades, her case was just one among thousands of women who were victims of gender-based violence, silenced and forgotten. However, her sister, Cristina Rivera Garza, found the strength to embark on a deep investigative process, reviewing the archives, diaries, and personal documents Liliana left behind after her death.

This process of reconstructing memory gave rise to the book 'Liliana's Invincible Summer', published in 2021. The play transcends the family sphere to become a powerful and necessary reflection on gender-based violence, the search for justice, and the imperative need to give a voice back to those who have been silenced. An event that invites reflection and social awareness in a theatrical format.
