The Last President
About the plan
The Teatro La República company presents 'The Last President' at the Teatro El Sauzal, a play that addresses Spain's democratic memory. This show not only commemorates an anniversary but also delves into the figure of Don Juan Negrín López, the last president of the Second Spanish Republic, whose story is often silenced or distorted.
Teatro La República views theatre as a space for debate, and this piece offers an immersion into the mind of Negrín, caught between responsibility and exile, scientific reason and the brutality of political collapse. The play is an uncomfortable yet necessary decision, aiming to make history resonate rather than explain it, and to confront the audience with questions about democracy, commitment, and the value of memory. It is an act of cultural resistance against oblivion and simplification, inviting us to look at the past without fear to understand the present.
The performance will take place on Friday 9 October 2026 at 20:00.
Tickets are priced as follows:
- Standard Rate: €12
- Special Rate: €9 (for students, under 25s, over 65s, and residents of El Sauzal municipality).
You can purchase your tickets at the Theatre Offices (calle Constitución, nº 3, annexed to the Town Hall) from Tuesday to Friday, 08:00 to 15:00, or at the theatre box office 90 minutes before the show starts. Tickets can also be bought via the online sales platform Ticketty. To access reduced rates, it is essential to present proof of eligibility at the box office. Please note that once the performance has begun, access to the auditorium will not be permitted.
