Powder Her Face by Thomas Adès

Ópera de Tenerife presents the Spanish premiere of Powder Her Face, the acclaimed chamber opera by Thomas Adès, at the iconic Teatro Leal in San Cristóbal de La Laguna. This provocative contemporary work focuses on the tumultuous and scandalous life of Margaret, Duchess of Argyll, whose social downfall was marked by her divorce and explicit sexual affairs in the 1960s.

With a satirical and bold tone, the opera narrates the dramatic story of the Duchess, from her life of luxury to her ruin and solitude, consumed by gossip and public scrutiny. The work explores how a society can devour and then condemn a public figure, with everyone from lovers to the press and judges participating in her downfall.
