Fiestas del Socorro – Güímar

Monday, 7 September 2026 · Güímar

Güímar is preparing for its traditional Fiestas del Socorro, a deeply rooted event and the oldest pilgrimage in the Canary Islands. The main celebration is the Bajada de la Virgen del Socorro, a moving procession that takes place on 7 September.

This popular pilgrimage follows the historic Camino del Socorro, starting from the Iglesia de San Pedro in Güímar town centre and descending to the Ermita del Socorro on the picturesque Playa de Chimisay. This procession is recognised as one of the most moving and well-attended in Tenerife, and has been declared a Festival of Regional Tourist Interest.

In the afternoon of the same day, the Ceremonia Guanche is staged, a moving recreation of the Virgin's appearance to the aboriginal people. The following day, 8 September, the image of the Virgin begins its ascent back to the town, thus concluding the festivities. Admission is free for all attendees.

Don't miss this traditional festival in Güímar on 07/09, an essential date to experience Canarian culture in the Metropolitan Area.
