Feast of Our Lady of Candelaria
About the plan
The Feast of Our Lady of Candelaria is one of the most important religious celebrations in the Canary Islands archipelago, popularly known as "the festival of the natives". On 14 and 15 August, the municipality of Candelaria hosts the main events in honour of the Patron Saint of the Canary Islands.
On the evening of 14 August, the Plaza de la Basílica becomes the setting for the evocative Guanche Ceremony. This historical re-enactment revives the mythical discovery of the Virgin's image by the aboriginal people, immersing attendees in the island's rich ancestral tradition.
The main day, 15 August, is marked by:
- The solemn procession of the Patron Saint
- The High Mass
- The arrival of thousands of pilgrims from all over the island, in an emotional display of devotion and tradition.
All events are free to attend and take place in the Basílica y Plaza de la Patrona de Candelaria, the spiritual heart of the festivities.
Don't miss this Traditional Festivals / Pilgrimages event in Candelaria on 14/08 and 15/08, an essential cultural and religious highlight for things to do in Tenerife in the Metropolitan Area.
