Bajada del Socorro, Fiestas Güímar 2026
About the plan
The Bajada del Socorro is one of the most iconic and traditional events of the Fiestas de Güímar, recognised as one of the oldest romerías in the Canary Islands. This revered festival in honour of Nuestra Señora del Socorro is celebrated in the municipality of Güímar, with its main events concentrated in the El Socorro area.
The main festival programme takes place over two consecutive days, 7 and 8 September, and is part of an extensive festive calendar spanning several days. The most prominent and deeply rooted traditional moments include:
- The emotional procession accompanying the image of the virgin from the Iglesia de San Pedro Apóstol in the centre of Güímar to the hermitage located in El Socorro, a highly devout journey.
- The eagerly anticipated re-enactment of the virgin's apparition in Chimisay, a historical and cultural passage commemorating the origins of this popular devotion.
- The traditional “subida” (return ascent), which marks the close of the main days of the romería.
It's an unmissable event to immerse yourself in Canarian culture and traditions in an atmosphere of fervour, community, and joy. Participation in this romería is free and open to all attendees.
Experience the essence of Tenerife's traditions with the Bajada del Socorro in Güímar on 07/09 and 08/09. An essential cultural plan for these dates.
